Contrary to what is popularly accepted, vaccinations are not just for the little ones. The protection provided to us by childhood immunizations can wear off over time, hence, we need to get revaccinated when we are older.
This National Immunization Awareness month, Longevity and Dignity Homecare would like to encourage seniors and their senior care administrators to schedule a consultation with their doctors to check and see what vaccinations they need to retake.
According to top providers of home health care in Corona, California, seniors 50 years and older are recommended to get the following shots:
- The shingles vaccine, which protects against shingles and the complications from the disease (recommended for healthy adults 50 years and older)
- Pneumococcal vaccines, which protect against pneumococcal disease, including infections in the lungs and bloodstream (recommended for all adults over 65 years old and for adults younger than 65 years who have certain chronic health conditions)
Nevertheless, there are some restrictions on who can get revaccinated. Some adults with specific health conditions should not get certain vaccines or should wait to get them. It is best to consult your physician or provider of home health services in California before getting your shots.
